The Most Important Seed Isn't a Crop. It's Trust.

In 1921, CP Group's journey began not as a large corporation, but as a small seed shop in Bangkok's Song Wat district under the name Chia Tai Chung. From the very beginning, quality and integrity were at the heart of the business. Over the years, that commitment evolved into a continuous pursuit of higher standards. From introducing sealed seed packaging with expiration dates under the "Aeroplane" brand, to bringing F1 hybrid seeds to Thailand for the first time, and becoming the first Thai company to receive ISTA international certification, every milestone reflected more than innovation. It demonstrated CP's belief that lasting trust is built by continuously improving and creating better solutions for people. These advancements not only helped improve agricultural productivity and expand opportunities for Thai farmers, but also shaped the organization's DNA: a belief that earning people's trust requires an unwavering commitment to continuous improvement and innovation. Because sustainable success doesn't begin with growing as fast as possible. It begins with the determination to deliver something better, every single day.

In 1953, CP Group expanded from seed production into animal feed, driven by the belief that advancing agriculture requires more than supplying raw materials. Farmers also need the right knowledge, tools, and nutrition to raise healthy livestock successfully. This investment went beyond manufacturing animal feed. It included developing scientifically balanced feed formulas, introducing modern technology and international production standards, and sharing farming knowledge and management practices with farmers. This approach not only improved the efficiency of Thailand's livestock industry but also laid the foundation for an integrated agricultural value chain that would eventually grow into a fully integrated food business. Because sustainable growth is not measured by an organization's success alone. It is measured by the opportunities it creates for everyone around it to grow together.

In 1970, CP Group shifted from operating separate businesses to building an integrated business model through the Feed-Farm-Food approach, connecting every stage of the value chain—from animal feed and livestock farming to food production for consumers. This integrated model enabled every step to work seamlessly together. It began with developing nutritionally balanced animal feed, continued through farm management guided by animal welfare and biosecurity standards, and extended to food production with full traceability across the entire supply chain. The result was a significant advancement in Thailand's food safety standards and a strong foundation for regional and global growth. Because excellence is not achieved by making one part of the system the best. It comes from making every part of the system work together at its best.

In 1978, CP Group established Charoen Pokphand Foods Public Company Limited (CPF) to bring together its expertise and capabilities in agro-industry under a modern management system. Guided by its vision of becoming the "Kitchen of the World," CPF built on CP's integrated business model, connecting animal feed, livestock farming, food processing, and distribution into a unified value chain. This approach evolved into a food production system centered on quality, food safety, and full traceability across every stage of the value chain. In 1979, China had only just begun opening its economy, and few could have predicted that it would become one of the world's largest economies. Yet CP chose to invest at the very beginning, becoming the first foreign company to receive Foreign Investment Business License No. 0001. This landmark decision reflected CP's long-term vision and confidence in the potential of an emerging market. By bringing its expertise in agro-industry and modern management practices to China, CP contributed to the development of the country's agricultural and food production sectors. Over the past four decades, CP has not only grown alongside China's economy but has also played an important role in strengthening economic cooperation, trade, and innovation between Thailand and China. This journey marked a defining step in CP's evolution into a truly international organization. Because the future belongs not to those who wait for opportunities to become obvious, but to those who recognize potential early and have the courage to act.

In 1988, CP Group secured the rights to operate 7-Eleven in Thailand and opened its first store on Patpong Road. At a time when access to goods and services outside regular business hours was limited, CP recognized this everyday challenge and turned it into a business opportunity. The idea of 24-hour convenience was something entirely new for Thai society. More than introducing a new retail format, 7-Eleven responded to the changing lifestyles of consumers by making essential products and services available whenever they were needed. As the network of stores expanded across the country, convenience stores became part of daily life for millions of people. At the same time, they created economic opportunities for local communities, entrepreneurs, and suppliers throughout Thailand. Because innovation that creates lasting change doesn't always begin with inventing something new. It begins with a deep understanding of people's needs.

In 1990, CP Group began expanding beyond its core businesses in agriculture and food into telecommunications, retail, financial services, property development, and other service industries. This move was driven by the belief that long-term growth should never rely on success in just one area, but on continuously seeking new opportunities. Building on its strengths in management, strategic partnerships, and deep consumer insight, CP successfully expanded into new industries. This diversification not only strengthened the Group's resilience and reduced business risk, but also enabled many of its businesses to become leaders in their respective industries while creating greater value through an interconnected business ecosystem. Entering new industries also broadened the organization's perspective, exposing it to new technologies, innovations, and business models. These experiences became an important foundation for CP's digital transformation in the years that followed, reflecting its belief that change should never be seen as a risk, but as an opportunity to create the next stage of growth.

The Hardest Times Often Teach the Most Valuable Lessons

In 1997, the Asian Financial Crisis sent shockwaves across Thailand’s business sector, and CP Group was no exception. The sharp depreciation of the Thai baht significantly increased the Group’s foreign debt obligations, creating one of the most challenging periods in its history. Amid the crisis, CP had to reassess its business portfolio and make difficult decisions about which businesses to retain and which to let go, even when some were still profitable. The Group prioritized businesses it believed could sustain the organization and support its long-term growth, particularly food, an essential need regardless of economic conditions, as well as telecommunications. At the same time, CP made the difficult decision to divest certain businesses to ease financial pressure and navigate through the crisis. The crisis brought lessons that went far beyond financial management. It reinforced the importance of risk management, disciplined investment decisions, and knowing what truly matters to the organization, while also highlighting the risks of technology-driven businesses, where change can happen rapidly. These lessons became part of the foundation for CP’s decision-making and growth in the years that followed. A strong organization is not defined by never facing a crisis, but by its ability to learn, adapt, and emerge stronger.

From Retail to a Stronger Distribution Network

In 2013, CP ALL invested in Makro, Thailand's leading wholesale business. The vision went far beyond expanding the Group's retail footprint. CP saw an opportunity to build a stronger distribution network that would help Thai producers reach the ASEAN market of more than 600 million consumers. Bringing together the strengths of retail and wholesale was not simply about growing the business. It was about connecting manufacturers, small business owners, traditional local retailers, and consumers through a more efficient and resilient distribution system. This enabled quality Thai products to reach wider markets while strengthening Makro's long-standing role as "the trusted partner of local retailers," providing independent shop owners across the country with greater access to products, knowledge, and business opportunities. By combining the strengths of both businesses, CP strengthened the entire value chain—from producers and small entrepreneurs to the consumers they serve. Because the greatest value is not created by growing alone. It is created when everyone across the system grows together.

A Key Piece of the Retail Ecosystem

In 2020, CP Group invested in Tesco Lotus, which was later rebranded as Lotus's. This investment was not simply about expanding the number of stores or sales channels. It was about completing CP's retail ecosystem by bringing together the strengths of 7-Eleven, Makro, and Lotus's into an integrated retail network spanning wholesale, retail, and online channels. This connected ecosystem made products and services more accessible to consumers while creating greater market opportunities for Thai products, farmers, SMEs, and community enterprises, both domestically and internationally. Combining the strengths of each business also enhanced the efficiency of the distribution network, opened new commercial opportunities, and strengthened the long-term competitiveness of Thailand's retail industry. It reflected CP's belief that growth is not simply about expanding a business, but about building an ecosystem where every stakeholder can grow together. Because in an increasingly connected world, competitive advantage is not about having the most channels. It is about connecting every channel to create the greatest value.

3 Aug 2026

In 2023, True and dtac merged to form the new True Corporation, creating one of the largest telecommunications mergers in Asia. The ambition, however, was not simply to build a bigger company. It was to combine the strengths of both organizations and accelerate the transformation from a telecommunications provider into a Telecom-Tech Company ready to help drive Thailand's digital economy. At the heart of this transformation was the development of a stronger digital infrastructure. By integrating their networks into a Single Grid, advancing AI, cloud, cybersecurity, and next-generation digital services, True aimed to deliver better experiences for consumers, businesses, and industries while creating new opportunities for future growth. The transformation also reflected a Future Ready mindset—one that goes beyond technology to continuously develop the organization, its people, and its culture to thrive in an increasingly digital world. Because in today's world, the most powerful connections are not the ones between networks. They are the connections between people, businesses, and technology that create new opportunities for an entire nation.

In 2024, CP Group accelerated its Digital Transformation by integrating AI, automation, robotics, cloud technologies, and data analytics across its value chain. These technologies enhanced customer experiences, streamlined operations, and enabled smarter business decisions. Yet the true focus of this transformation was never technology alone. It was about empowering people to learn, adapt, and make the most of technology. CP's belief is simple: "We don't develop people to compete with AI. We develop people to use AI to its fullest potential." This philosophy is reflected in building a digital workforce, developing future-ready skills, and bringing together technology talent from across the Group to drive innovation, unlock new business opportunities, and support sustainable growth. Because technology may be a powerful tool, but people who never stop learning are the force that shapes the future.
